The average price of gas today in the U.S. is a whopping $4.08 a gallon, up 28 cents from a month ago and $1.09 from a year ago. Let’s talk about saving money at the pump.
Check Web sites that show the lowest local prices. Gas buddy is a great place to search by zip code for the gas station near you with the lowest prices. You can also see the average cost per gallon in your area, and compare it to the national average.
Have your tires inflated to the right pressure. This will make things easier on your engine, which will in turn use less gas. According to
this article, it can save you three to four miles of gas per gallon.
If your tires are shot, you will likely get better gas mileage with new ones. For additional savings on tires or any other auto parts, be sure to check out the

Take a little more time to accelerate and decelerate at stops. Many people press the gas pedal too quickly when the light turns green, or in turn hit the brakes too late when the light turns red. Being gentler on the accelerator at stop lights will improve your fuel economy significantly.
Don’t idle your engine before driving in cold weather. This isn’t a concern for us now that it’s June, but waiting for a few minutes before driving off just wastes gas. Instead, go light on the gas pedal for the first few minutes after driving off.
Walk to your destination whenever possible. Not only will you save money on gas, but you will also get some exercise and enjoy the nice summer weather.
