In an effort to save more money on groceries during these tough times, more people are exploring the idea of joining a warehouse club. Given that there are two major warehouse clubs in most areas, Costco and Sam's Club, most people are faced with the choice of which warehouse club to join—since membership is not free. I have heard numerous debates on which is warehouse club is better and even been asked many times which one I prefer. From the conversations I have had, it seems like Costco is more preferred in my area, but I have also met my share of Sam's Club enthusiasts.
I recently came across this great article which highlights the differences between
Costco vs. Sam's Club. Some differences between the two warehouses that were mentioned in the article are that Sam's Club has more locations, Costco has more high-end brands and Sam's Club has a larger selection of products for commercial customers.
If you're entirely new to the idea of shopping at a warehouse club and buying in bulk, keep in mind that it's the prices and not the customer service that keeps customers coming back. Both warehouse clubs don't accept manufacturers' coupons, don't have fitting rooms, don't provide shopping bags and don't have employees walking around to answer questions. Also, keep in mind that other than a few staples, shopping at a warehouse club is really hit or miss. Merchandise is sold in limited quantities and styles, turns over quickly, and isn't always replenished.
What has your experience been shopping at Sam's Club or Costco? Do you have a preference?
