Back-to-school shopping is going to be tax-free in certain states and the District of Columbia for a few days this August. If you live in
one of these states, you will be able to purchase items such as clothing, school supplies and computers without having to pay state sales tax. You may have to pay local sales tax in some places though.
The following states will be having a tax-free holiday in August: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Iowa, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The majority of these states will be having their "tax free holiday" August 1-3, so be sure to take advantage of this great opportunity if you live in one of these states. The Federation of Tax Administrators has more details about the 2008
State Sales Tax Holidays on their website.
