Here’s wishing all of our CoolSavings Community members a Happy Fourth of July this weekend! Be safe by handling your sparklers, bottle rockets and firecrackers with utmost care. Here are some helpful tips I have gathered online regarding firework safety:
* Read up on your state’s laws and abide by them. This
fact sheet from the Consumer Product Safety Commission provides a breakdown of which fireworks are legal in which state.
* Only use fireworks as intended. Do not try to alter or combine them.
* Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a designated "shooter" who wears safety glasses. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter.
* Consider leaving it to the professionals. Many local park districts put on spectacular fireworks shows. Bring a lawn chair, sit back and enjoy.
Nationwide, there were 9,200 reported firework-related injuries in 2006. Common injuries include burns to the head, face and hands. Fireworks can also start a fire if they land on flammable material.
Be safe, and your peace of mind will enable you to enjoy the holiday all the more!
